How it works

Logging is just texting.

Everything you'd do in a tracker, you do by saying it. Basil writes the journal for you, and tells you what each estimate is based on.

a big bowl of pho and a thai iced tea
Logging dinner

Type it like a text

Whatever you'd tell a friend. Portions, brands and “a big bowl” all count.

Chicken, yellow rice and mixed vegetables on a dinner plate

Or snap your plate

Foods, portions and the assumptions behind each estimate. Barcodes and labels work too.

that was a double, not a single

Fix it in plain words

“That was a double.” “Delete the yogurt.” “Log yesterday's dinner.” Done.

Yogurt and granola could fit. Let's work out portions.

Ask for what fits you

Ideas for a cut, weight gain or your macro goals. Just ask.

It does the looking up.

Ask what to order. Basil can search restaurant menus, check nutrition sources and put the options in the context of your day.

It remembers your routine.

Your usual lunch. The milk you prefer. Your food preferences and what you're working toward. Basil keeps useful details so each conversation can build on the last.

It sees the bigger picture.

The Journal

Your day, added up as you go.

Your meals, estimated calories and macros, all in one place. See how the day adds up against the targets you and Basil chose, whether you're eating for weight loss, weight gain or maintenance.

  • No searching a food database, no picking from twelve kinds of banana.
  • Ask about your history in words and get an answer, not a chart to interpret.
  • Every number is an estimate, and it says what it's based on.

Basil starts the conversation, too

Thoughtful support, without having to ask

A missed log. A tough week you mentioned. A pattern worth talking about. Basil can reach out with a check-in that has something to do with you.

  • Accountability, your way. Ask for gentle encouragement or a more direct nudge. Basil can push back while staying on your side.
  • You set the boundaries. Turn check-ins on, then tell Basil when to reach out, what helps, or when to back off.

Hey, you mentioned Tuesdays get hectic. No lunch logged yet. Want to catch me up?

grabbed a sandwich between meetings. forgot to log it
Let's get it in. What was in the sandwich? A rough description is fine.

Your goals. Your plan.

Your plan learns from your progress.

Weight loss, weight gain, maintenance, a cut or specific macro goals: tell Basil what you're working toward. It estimates a plan around your goal, routine and preferences, then refines it with you week by week.

  • Calories and macros that fit you. Tell Basil your food preferences and macro priorities. It explains the estimates behind the targets it suggests.
  • More history. Less guesswork. Weekly Reviews use logged meals, weight trends and how you're feeling to refine your plan. One unusual day doesn't rewrite it.
  • Change direction when you need to. Move from a cut to maintenance, revisit a gain goal, or adjust your macro preferences. You review changes before Basil saves them.

Healthy habits, for the long run

For the life you actually live.

Takeout, holidays, a drink with friends. Your plan has to work in the middle of real life. Basil helps you work on habits around food, alcohol and everyday routines, one manageable change at a time.

No crash diets. No starting over every Monday.

Ask for help planning a night out, cutting back on drinks, or getting back to your routine after a messy week. The aim is healthy habits you can keep, with support when things get hard.

An example of being on your side
went overboard with dinner and drinks. skip breakfast tomorrow?
Let's keep breakfast. You don't need to make up for tonight by skipping meals. Want to pick one thing to do differently next time?
yeah, i'd like to be more intentional about the drinks
We can work on that. What would feel like a realistic change for your next night out?

A little pushback. A practical next step. Room to be human.

Privacy

Your journal lives on your phone.

There's no Basil account, and no server of ours keeps your food diary. We'd rather tell you exactly what moves than make a promise we can't keep.

Stored on your phone

Your journal, plan, conversations and memories sit in a database on your device, and in your phone's own backups if you have them on.

Sent to answer you

To reply, Basil sends the AI model what the answer needs: your words and photos, and the journal entries it reads to work something out.

Not used to train

Every request asks for AI providers that don't train on what you send. Nothing is sold or used for ads.
